Documentary Voiceovers and Titles/Credits

Voiceovers:

  • "Mission to explain"- main aim of a voiceover to help uncover the "story"
  • 'The story is shaped in shooting and editing in response to what is discovered or uncovered, and then any final voiceover would have be written'- the voiceover is able to change the whole aspect of the documentary in some ways making the documentary more subjective than objective
  • Facilities- the voiceover will be done in school: the school recording studio
  • Voiceover would have to be written at the end- because we wont know what will come from the editing we therefore need to wait in order to see the finishing product
  • Voiceover prior to shooting anything else pulls the piece together
  • Voiceover considered a primary tool- something that has to be perfect along with timing
Is your type of documentary suited to any voiceover at all?
Our documentary will require a voiceover in between the main subjects talking where we can then use this time to ask the audience questions and what we are able to learn so far/voiceover person. This therefore makes our mode of documentary expository rather than performative or it could be a collection of both. In doing the voiceover the problems that will occur is the timing and certain places where we think the voiceover maybe relevant as well as who should do the voiceover; a boy or a girl? Because our documentary includes a voiceover it might create a biased view which is something which we will try to avoid
